The agents are already on the payroll. They shipped inside software the company already pays for. Most teams have never been told they exist.

I talked to an ops director at a 400-person financial services firm last month. They switched on three agents at once — lead scoring, compliance review, meeting summaries. First week was chaos. The CRM scored leads against criteria nobody approved. The compliance agent flagged documents using rules that didn’t match how the team actually worked.

Week two, one person wrote a one-page brief for each agent. What it does. What it doesn’t. Where its output goes. Who reviews it. By week four, compliance first-pass review dropped 60%.

The agent didn’t improve. The team stopped fighting it.

Gartner says CIOs have three to six months to define their agent strategies before the gap becomes structural. But the gap isn’t about strategy documents. It’s about the fact that nobody introduced the new teammates to the rest of the team. That’s a management problem, not a technology one.
