Memory Needs an Owner

DISPATCH  ·  LOGGED WITH MAI

Claude memory now follows the work.

That is the useful part. Also the dangerous part.

A chat that remembers preferences is convenient. An agent that carries the same memory into tasks is different. It means context starts behaving like infrastructure: always there, quietly shaping the next draft, brief, plan, or update.

Most teams will treat this as a feature toggle.

Turn it on. Let people use it. Trust the settings page.

That is not enough.

Memory needs an owner. Someone has to decide which project facts are durable, which client preferences are safe to save, which rules expire, and what source of truth wins when memory and reality disagree.

Bad context does not fail loudly. It lingers. It makes the wrong answer feel familiar.

The first move is simple: name the five things your team re-explains to AI every week. Turn those into clean, reviewable context. Remove sensitive material. Assign a human to keep it current.

More memory is not the advantage.

Clean memory, attached to real work, is.
