Control Before Budget

Most companies do not need to solve that version tomorrow.

They do need to solve the office-sized version before another agent gets access to the stack.

Who owns the agent reading customer emails? What can it read? What can it change? Who reviews the work? Who can shut it down at 4:17 p.m. when it starts doing the wrong thing quickly?

If those answers do not exist, the company is not scaling AI. It is scaling ambiguity.

This is where the tool budget conversation gets weird. A team can approve five AI trials without ever admitting it made an operating decision. Then the work spreads. One assistant drafts. Another summarizes. Another routes tickets. Another touches the CRM. Nobody planned an agentic organization. They assembled one by accident.

The fix is not a 40-page policy nobody reads.

It is a control model simple enough to use: named owner, defined scope, permission boundary, review path, shutdown path.

That is the boring list. It is also the difference between a useful agent and a loose process with a login.

Before the next subscription, name the owner.
