Watch the Work Move

GPT-6 Astra is the headline. Supervision is the signal.

OpenAI shipped a model built for longer work: research, code, computer use, documents, tasks that do not fit inside one neat prompt-and-answer loop. Fine. The model got stronger. That was expected.

The more interesting part is the control surface around it.

Async tool calls. Mid-turn steering. Changing reasoning effort while the conversation is still alive. Those are not demo ornaments. They are management primitives.

A short answer can be judged at the end. Longer AI work cannot. By the time the output lands, the agent may have chosen sources, skipped constraints, changed scope, or solved the wrong version of the problem with perfect confidence.

That is where the gap opens.

Most teams know how to approve access. Fewer know how to supervise work in motion. Who can redirect the agent? When does it stop and ask? What counts as drift? What choices get logged? What work is allowed to continue without a human hand on it?

This is not micromanagement. Micromanagement turns AI into a slower queue. Supervision gives the work a lane, a checkpoint, and a way to recover before cleanup becomes the project.

The next advantage will not belong to the team that buys the newest model first.

It will belong to the team that can watch the work move and correct it while correction still matters.
