The Copy Nobody Can Account For
Databricks bought Row Zero, a spreadsheet that connects to live company data. I keep thinking about the copies it might replace.
Picture Friday’s margin review. Finance exported a sales report on Monday, updated a sheet on Thursday, then asked an agent to explain a dip on Friday. The agent gives a convincing answer using Monday’s costs. Someone forwards the sheet. Now there are two versions of the mistake.
The grid is useful because a person can point at a cell and ask where the number came from. Keep that habit. Before an agent reads the sheet, trace one recurring report: which system supplies the numbers, when they refresh, who can see them, and who can export a copy.
Then ask who corrects the answer when the sheet and the source disagree. If nobody owns that call, the agent will make the wrong number travel faster.
